    Interesting story reported on christiantoday..

    http://www.christiantoday.com/article/why.pope.francis.is.calling.catholics.to.have.a.personal.encounter.with.jesus/49378.htm

"personal encounter [with Jesus] should lead to evangelism and good works.."

"In Catholic language, 'the personal encounter with Jesus' has never been a very familiar concept. Preferred instead of 'personal' encounter was the idea of ecclesial encounter, which occurs, namely, through the sacraments of the Church. To our Catholic ears, the expression had vaguely Protestant resonances."

"Christians should speak of the joy of the gospel, but they can only know this for themselves by knowing the person of Jesus"

In one sense unsurprising given the Pope's background as a Jesuit. According to Martin SJ ("Jesuit's guide to life"), this type of exercise can be read into the Spiritual exercises which are the bedrock of that Order and how they fit an encounter with God into their working life.

(BTW - having problem getting past the video ads)

So did I - they seem to be a new addition to this site and they are a real nuisance

I have a spiritual encounter with Christ every time I pray and read scripture, and the most spiritually nourishing encounters for me are at mass and adoration.
