    Hi Guys,

I have recently had my website updated.

I went on to Alexa.com just to see global rank/rank in Ireland and now instead of "Rank in Ireland" it has "Rank in India". Is this something the web designer did, changed settings? Or does it look like he outsourced the work to India.

    Thanks Guys

    Joe

Hard to know without knowing the url of the site. If you don't want to post it here you can PM and I'll take a quick look.

    Hi Devildriver,

I would rather not say at the minute, but how could you tell by looking at the URL ?

    Thanks again

Well by looking at the site you could see if there was anything amiss on the meta tags you could trace the hosting location and see if you can find any clues as to why it's ranking in India.

Do you have access to Google Webmaster Tools and/or Analytics accounts for this site?

We still have the same host....which is Irish domains. Have both webmaster tools and Analytics. India would be in our top 10 visitors.....but would never outrank Ireland,Uk or the US.

Again it's difficult to say anything more without being able to look at the site, it's all just guesswork. I would examine the Analytics to see at what point the traffic changed and see if you can determine why.

alexa results should not be taken as absolutes.

As far as I am aware their results are influenced by the information the get from web users that have the Alexa bar on their browser.

If you have a site with relatively low visitor count and someone doing work on your site (lots of visits) has the alexa bar on their browser, this can skew the results, but within a month or two the results will return to normal.
