Job Seekers Allowance& Temp Work

    Hi all,

I am a bit confused about JSA and Temp Work. I signed up to a few recruitment agencies in the hope I could temp while looking for a full-time job. If they offer me temp work (e.g. for a couple of days or a couple of weeks), can I take it up without losing my social welfare claim for AFTER I finish? I don't want to have to stop my claim completely and have to sign on again. The information is really vague from my local office. I'd be really grateful if anyone knows the procedure for taking up work but not closing claim entirely.

    Thanks.

If its casual work e.g 3 days or less then your claim will be changed over to casual, you will have to submit dockets each week and any means from employment will be assessed. If its temp work and you have a start and stop date and its 12 weeks or less then your claim can be payment suspended for that period. I you cannot provide a definite finishing date then your claim will be closed.

great thanks. Is this set out somewhere on welfare.ie or on the Citizens' Info websites? I found them quite confusing as they only addressed what you'd get while you were working, not what would happen after. That info about 12 weeks is especially useful, it definitely wouldn't be that long. We're talking a few days here and there for me, maybe a week if I'm lucky. Thanks again.

http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/1057_Jobseekers-Allowance.aspx N.B The eight weeks temp work was recently increased to 12 weeks.

Sorry to jump on someone else's thread, but it's a similar question regarding temp work. Looking to apply for JSA but have 1 day (6 hours) temp work per week. However, I won't get paid for the work until the contract is completed. So do I state on the form that I'm working, even though I'm not getting any money into my hand for another few months? Or do I just declare it when I actually get paid, and not claim that week?
