Is there an economical single-house turbine available yet - one that is effective and quiet (site is rural, but houses are close enough to each other)?

Wind is not a problem on my site.

If you look at the UK market, small wind is only viable with a 17p subsidy for any power produced. This falls to 14 or 15p at the end of this month. There is no subsidy here, so it is unlikely to be viable.

In terms of price per KwHr produced, at this stage solar PV is a lot cheaper and is maintenance free. The hardware for a 2kw system is about €2500 plus VAT and will produce about 1800 or 1900 Kwhrs per year. You would be paying some €15k for a 3kw turbine which might produce twice or three times that amount on a good site, and you would also have maintenance costs.
