    Howdy all,

I was on my way into the navan this evening and hit the 60 speed limit and was slowing down but it looks like there was a speed van sitting deep in the side of the road.

My question is I seen the operator outside the van either locking or unlocking it, would the van be clocking speed if the operator is outside the van?

I think it's on full time, but open to corrections

You hit the speed limit.. Did you break it? Also remember that your speedometer is always going to over report your speed.

I'm not gonna lie i was doing about 70KPH in a 60 zone, I was slowing down slowly but not enough.

About 4 weeks ago I was doing 108km/h in 100km/h limit. Directly in front of speed van I slowed down to 104km/h and then a quick infrared flash fired.
I obviously didn't see infrared flash as I'm only human, but my dashcam caught it. It's very tiny one, so I wonder more if it was really a flash or maybe only some kind of sensor.

4 weeks passed by, and I haven't received anything.
Speeds I mentioned are real speeds - not speedometer speeds.

Gatsos take photos regardless if you speed or not.

This was one of go-safe vans.

A van is frequently outside a housing estate on the Malahide road. I've gone by it a few times doing well below the limit(it's a well known spot and a ridiculous low limit so loads of people get caught there) and a few times there has been an actual flash, when I know I've been doing well below the limit.

So I wouldn't get overly concerned, especially four weeks. I only had one there in January, was doing 40kmph when I hit its vision (50kmph zone) and snailed by it. Still got flashed. Obviously nothing arrived.

Although granted the first few times it happened thought I was done and had the rage cause I was doing well below, but I think some of them just take photos all the time or something.

In this case it was noticable and recognisable to the human eye.

They 'flash' every car. Its an infra-red flash. Some people are more sensitive to it than others. In addition, at certain times of day and in certain lighting conditions, you can pick it up better by eye. There was a really good explanation here a while ago:

    And that thread in general.

They only operate when stationary, parked up and the operator is inside.

Was it 70 on your speedometer or actually 70?
