Hot water pump making lots of noise

    Hi guys,

So a few days ago one of my housemates left the hot water switched on permanently for at least a few hours, but it's possible it was for a couple of days.

Since then, the pump for the hot water (which happens to be in my bedroom!) is making a lot of noise.

I thought that maybe it would be that the tank was venting itself somehow, so that it doesn't explode. But it's day 4 now I think, which seems like a long time for that to be still going on. The water was really hot on day 1, but at this point it's not exceptionally hot, so I assume it's not venting.

I sent a video to a plummer that I kinda know, and he suggested that it's air or grit causing it, and that bleeding it (the tank?) would fix it.

Would anybody here be able to have a look at this and tell me if that makes sense? And is bleeding something that I can do myself, or do I need to get a plummer to do it?

    Thanks!

Whats the max water temp on the side of pump. 60?
the impeller on the hot side may have warped

Am I correct in thinking that the problem you are having is the constant short bursts of activity (aka short cycling)?
If so, then this is usually as a result of a leak in the water system somewhere.
Check all of your taps and showers for dripping.
Check inside toilet cisterns for constant dripping ball-cocks or filling valves.
If there is no evidence of drips then it may be dirt caught in one of the non-return valves in the pump or a damaged non-return valve.
On the end of each of the flexible hose connectors where they connect with the pipes there is a flat screwdriver slot. On the flexible hose pipes from the raised connections in at the back of the pump turn the slots a quarter turn.
This will turn off the flow of hot and cold water out of the pump.
If the short bursts stop completely, then there is a leak or a drip somewhere on the pipework or taps etc.
If the short bursts continue, then its most likely a problem with the non return valves.
Other problems may be the pressure vessel or the pressure switch, but less likely.
In the mean time there is no problem turning off the power supply to the pump when you don't need it and switch it back on for showers.
    Hope that helps..
