    Hi Guys

Finishing our house and we want to put tiles in the batroom. We only want to put them on the floor (for now) and inside the shower

The reason is because we just havent found the tile that we want for the wall and to be honest we arent even sure if we want tiles

Would painting the walls work ? If so, is there a special kind of paint ?

There are some industrial type of paints which are waterproof when used but they're not cheap. you might also consider pvc panelling as a alternative or temporary measure. The other thing to consider is if you do paint then you'll have to strip right back to plaster as you can't Tile over paint.
