    Hello,

I am looking for a top quality spec/product for staining western red cedar cladding black.
The wood grain should be visible under the stain.

    Any ideas?

A bit of preparation needed for this method , causes a chemical reaction with any acidic timber.
Add rusted metal such as nails, wire, nuts, bolts etc to white vinegar, let it sit for a few days then paint the solution onto the wood where it reacts with the acid in the wood and turns it black , works great with oak so should also work with cedar.

There was an episode of grand designs on the Isle of Wight where they burnt the cedar before putting it up. It turned black.

Burning it is a Japanese thing.

Planning it myself for a house and cabin I'm planning to build.
