I was thinking about planting 2 or 3 acres with hardwoods. The piece of land is not good for grazing, has rushes and is a bit on the peaty side. How do I go about getting this grant under the new afforestation scheme 2015-2020. (its not that clear hoe to go about it)
Is it worth applying for it or just planting myself at my own cost.

Have a look here, I reckon it would be better to try get the planting grant. You say it's peaty, if it's wet then you are going to be limited with what you can plant, alder is one anyway, cherry might be an option.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.
