    Hi all,

I am thinking about a new Skoda Octavia in May, not sure about Hatchback or estate version yet. Can anyone offer some advice/opinion if you currently have one or had one of the new 2013- model.

I am looking at the Elegance spec but may trim back to save a few €€€€€'s

    Thanks all,

Kop end ,Ihave a 132 elegance which i bought at 5 months old.Very well equipped and because mine was a skoda ireland management car-it has the upgraded tenon alloys and the chrome pack which looks well.Engine is a 5 speed and you might find this could do with a 6th gear as it can feel laboured slightly at motorway speeds but is fine for day to day stuff.Space is collosal in cabin and boot and is a major plus to have the liftback boot. There is a 2 litre 6speed engine which is possibly a better buy but is usually seen in estates here although common enough in the uk in standard octavia.Mechanically bombproof once the castrol edge oil is used.

    Thanks finalfurlong,

Nice information there, I'm glad you have positive things to say about the hatch as that is the way I am leaning but most reviews advise the estate.
Do you mind me asking what colour you have, it seems the silver, metal grey and Cappucino colours are most popular.
What is your info screen like? Touchscreen ???

    Thanks

No prob.Mine is the metallic black which is a popular colour.A skoda salesman advised me that silver and black are the best colours .The octavia is along car and the wrong colour can make sides very "slab"looking. As i said the chrome package came on mine and really sets off the appearance.Elegance trim is loaded with standard kit and cabin is top quality with no cheap plastics.Stop start is standard but can be deactivated on any journey.it is excellent as car just starts up again once clutch is pressed .Economy on mine which has 25k miles up now averaging about 51 mpg in mixed driving.Boot is bigger than mondeo at 595 litres and i have had furniture in it without problem.Estate wouldnt have much extra space? More chance of it having the 6 speed engine, though.Excellent touchscreen and sound system is standard in elegance with cd player in glove box. cant fault anything and will probably trade up in couple of years-heard that the refreshed model at end of 2016 will have a 6 speed 120 bhp engine as in the new passat.

I believe the 2015 superb has a normal boot opening now instead of the liftback.

My mother has a late 2011 elegance model so it's the older model. It's a very good car completly trouble free from new. I've been in a few new models and the mid spec ambition one is nothing to write home about I think the interior isn't great. My biggest problem with the new model is they have jacked the price up so much on them. Octavia's always represented a well build good value car they are no longer good value so I kind of struggle to see the point of them now.

    It's still a hatchback though.

Hmmm, the car will be primarily a company car with very low mileage going on it 20k per year, It will also have to serve as the only family car for 2 adults and 2 kids, ( 1 is a baby) so big boot space is also a must. The elegance model comes in around the set budget for me and the Octavia seems to tick the space and safety requirements also.

Please feel free for anyone to offer any alternative ideas for the same budget, it must be new and also Diesel .;)

    Thanks

If you can swing it get the 2 litre like mentioned.

I'd have a look at the Mazda 3 saloon and Seat Leon Estate too before making a decision.

Thanks for the input, I had a look at the mazda 3 in saloon but the boot-door is no great to be honest for luggin large items, the liftback on the octy saloon is better. The Seat Leon ST is deffo a runner though, it looks great, one of the nicest estates out there to be honest, and the budget would get me a nearly top-spec (not FR version )

    Thanks
