Any opinions on whether it's any good?

I had one of the previous models - it was fine. Main problem (and this is probably common to most bread makers) is that it makes a very tall loaf that's difficult to slice. I generally used mine to mix the dough then I took it out and shaped it into an oval shape to cook in the oven.

I too have the older model, which I picked up at the very attractive price of €25 in a Lidl warehouse sale last year. I have only used it around 5 times and have only baked the raisin bread recipe, but I really can't complain. It works. You will still have to dig the 'hooks' out of the base, but it is a good buy. I'd say go for it. If you're serious about breadmaking then you'll be considering more expensive Panasonic ones anyway. But if you're like me and want one more than need one (and have the space for one in your press/worktop), then this is worth your money. Fresh bread, mmmm.

    I disagree.

Breadmaking in a breadmaker is a precarious enough exercise without having to try and do it with the Lidl or Aldi version of the product. I think that there are reviews on the Panasonic breadmaker on other parts of this site and you will see how happy people are with it.

In this case, you may or may not get the hang of making bread with the breadmaker but whatever chance you have you are much more likely to do so with the Panasonic one. It's not like you are buying a mercedes car, it might take a bit longer to get the money together but a better investment in thye long run.

My parents bought a cheap breadmaker about 10 years ago and, after a few tries, gave up and it eventually took up space in the bin. It put me off buying a breadmaker for years until I read enough reviews of the Panasonic and I gave it a go, got a good deal at the tme. I dont use it every week but it has more than paid for itself and is still in perfect working order.

As an aside, there should be a health warning in the Bargain Alerts forum. Just because an item isn a bargain does not mean its a good idea to purchase.

I have an older model too and it just did not work out for me.
The bread never turned out right.

We used it for years (times before Lidl bakery :P) and had no problems. Worked just fine if you don't expect it to cope with really heavy / sauerdough type doughs. Its ok for white /sweet breads. I made a really nice white one with yoghurt. Only thing is getting out the hooks, didn't think it was that difficult.

While looking up reviews for this one I came across the Panasonic one which seems like the job, but a bit expensive £116.99. A quick look on camelcamel showed me it was reduced to £69.99 for a very short time in Feb so said I'd chance me arm with Amazon.

Initial Question: Hi, I was hoping to buy the Panasonic SD-2502. I had a camelcamel alert setup for it but unfortunately I was away when it was reduced to £69.99 on Feb 20th

Can't vouch for this model, but we use our breadmaker for dough for pizzas, flatbread etc.

    Absolutely love it!

    +1

It's fine and good value for money

Had one of these many years ago but at some point upgraded to the Panasonic SD255. Apples and oranges though, the Panasonic was €150 or so

A bit like buying a Nissan Micra on a tight budget when you are trying to see if you like driving. It's fine for that, but if you really get into it and and have more money later, you'd buy a fast V8 petrol BMW :D
