Getting cow back into heat

    I have a lm heifer calf ,nice shapey calf.mother hasn't a hole pile of milk but enough."hopefully" I was thinkin of lettin the calf suckle twice a day to get her back into heat.when should she start rambling again? Approx? Thanks calf is 3 and a bit weeks thanks

    She'll come bulling maybe in April and definitely in May.
    Sucking twice a day will probably bring her round a shake earlier than conventional suckling.
    6 to 8 weeks post calving is normal enough.

    Having said all that a first calver is often the most difficult to get goin again.

    Average dairy cow - 25 days
    Average beef cow - 55 days

    Keeping the calf away will speed things up.
