Ladies, what are you're thoughts on Receding hairlines?

Would/does it affect your opinion of a lad?
What age do you just sort of say 'well it was bound to happen'?

I'm 17 and my hairline has gone t*ts up but not much I can/would do about it.
That being said most girls I know like it (it's obviously receding but they like it, it's not like I'm imagining it)
I've even had a sub teacher say I should shave my head because I would look like a young jason statham...
That was a strange experience and I just want to see is it just the girls I know who don't mind/like it or is it across the board?

If you're proud to be a baldie, slap your head.

(Song from the old Channel Four programme "Who Dares Wins", anticipating Larry David's "Bald A$shole" shtick by two decades).

Look at it this way, if anyone ever wants advice on insurance for their beige cardigan, you look like the man to talk too.

Shave it all off son, much sexier. A shaved head is rather macho in my opinion.

Women will judge a man on his receeding hairline at the drop of a hat but will be routinely horrified by a woman being judged on her appearance. Truth is OP nobody is obliged to be attracted to anybody, whether it's PC or not doesn't really matter.

    Glazers Out!

Your fcuked, shave it all off and wear turtlenecks for the rest of your life. The ladies will love the roll on deodorant look

Ignore the "just shave it all off" brigade. You haven't got some kind of repulsive deformity that you need to conceal from the world.

    You'll grow into it.

You don't have a receding hairline, you're just so ugly your hair is running away from your face.

Just to clarify I'm not having a quarter (I hope) life crisis, I'm just asking what are you're opinions on it!

As a gay man, I figure my opinion means something here. A receding hairline doesn't ruin someone's attractiveness or look, but it can if they don't deal with it correctly. Usually a buzz cut is the best option. If it hasn't receded too much, a fringe might be a viable option, but many hairstyles really don't work with a receding hairline and just make people look like they're trying to cling on to their hair even though it's a lost cause.

I honestly would barely notice it. I'm not very observant though about guys' hair and clothes (I notice these for women far more, probably because I'm a woman and into the shtyle) but I really really don't care about a receding hairline once I like him.
At 17 it's quite young to be happening, but it can happen to a lot of guys not much older.

Uh oh OP this guy ended up with a right munter.

If your hair is the only thing going for you (it is for far, far to many people) then you're fecked. If you can hold a decent conversation and Mr. Winky isn't laughably small you'll be grand.

Just don't get fat and wobbly in your 20s OP.....sporting a comb-over, wearing shirts half tucked in, half out and a builders arse on ya. That's not a good look :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,537 ✭✭✭KKkitty

Embrace it OP. My fella is follicily challenged and I find it alluring.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,962 ✭✭✭✭dark crystal

As a woman, I find it quite sexy. My fella is receding a bit at the sides and I think it makes him look a bit like Jack Nicholson in The Postman Always Rings Twice.

*For the benefit of our young op, that's an early 80's film in which Jack Nicholson and Jessica Lange do naughty things to each other.

Women, myself included, don't give a ****e about how much hair a man has, as long as he keeps himself neat and tidy, washes regularly, dresses half okay and treats a girl decently then hes grand.

Women are well aware that even the most luxuriously haired man may be bald as a coot in a few years so its not an important thing to look for.

Just don't do a comb over, Jesus, it looks so stupid! Shave it off. Ffs. Nothing looks worse than a guy clinging onto the last of his hair, instant turn off.

I'm a baldie. It happened when I was young too. Truth is, it never mattered. Don't worry about it. I think for every woman that likes the 'Boy Band Perfect Hair' look, there is another who likes the 'Ordinary Human Being with faults like everyone else' look.

(helps that I am as sexy as hell too.)

If you've a decent face, good teeth and a suitable skull shape you should be able to pull it off. Things you can actually do to help would be start lifting and aim to get jacked (look at Jason statham, a massive part of how much of a badass he is is his physique), grow and maintain clean facial hair and wear nice, well fitting clothes.

The fact you're balding so young sucks since you may find it difficult to attract girls your own age for a while since they'd be the ones most interested in the boy-band look, but as you get older you'll find women care less and less since more and more men your age will be bald/balding. This is all subjective though, you shouldn't have any trouble attracting girls as long as you're confident about it and don't give off an insecure vibe about it. I've had a couple of friends go bald and the worst part is listening to them always bringing it up and dwelling on it to the point they just sound depressed when the reality is nobody except them gives a sh!t. It's one of those small things you notice when initially meeting someone and then instantly get over. You already give off the impression that you're not bothered by it so you'll definitely be grand.

    Freddie Ljungberg
    Kelly Slater
    Jason Statham.
