kitchen worktops and glass splashbacks

Want to revamp my kitchen. The cupboards are solid oak and in good condition so want to revamp kitchen by replacing the worktop. I have seen one called Maia- cappacino in colour which is a composite shiny surface. I just wondered if this glossy surface would look out of place with the oak kitchen. It is normally advertised along with the new glossy kitchens. Also would like a glass splashback instead of tiles. Again would this look out of place with the oak kitchen. Any advice much appreciated.

I spent a year faffing about backwards and forwards on glass splashbacks. In the end I went for some midrange tiles, I couldn't over the thought that the GSB's looked tacky. And the cost - oh my!

Sometimes they look good but you have to be very careful.

Could you get a sample and then put it against your kitchen units to get a feel if they go? Or has the supplier every done a similar combination that you could go and visit?

Why don't you paint your oak cupboards in a colour that will compliment your the new counter. Cheap and a great way of changing your kitchen. If its real oak, use an eggshell type of paint as this looks better than cheaper wood satin paint. Little Greene, farrow and ball quality finish is great and colours lovely too.
    Hope this helps.
