getting coloured stone in Dublin

Myself and my boyfriend are thinking about getting engaged, yayyy :)

We were shopping for a ring when he was up last weekend. I would love a colored stone in yellow gold, I tried a few on and they really complemented my skin color.

We went to the stores along Grafton st and down the side streets as well as O'Connell st and Henry st. I think the selection was pretty poor for colored stones (mostly platinum and diamond), the shops on the side streets off Grafton st were the best.

Does anybody have any recommendations on where to shop?

    Thanks, su,

Firstly, congratulations on the impending engagement... It is a lovely time.

Stonechat Jewellers do really nice coloured stones- check out Michael O' Dwyers pieces which they stock.

I also have a coloured stone for my engagement ring and absolutely adore it. However, just as a word of warning, you may find yourself defending your choice more than if you went with a traditional diamond. I had some nasty comments about my other half being too cheap to buy a diamond and had to seriously bite my tongue at the time- especially as it was far from a cheap ring!

I hope you find something that you love and are proud to wear every day.

I think a look around powerscourt shopping centre should find what your looking for.

Did you try Voltaire diamonds? They seem to specialise in coloured stones. That's where my husband bought mine and anyone I know with a coloured stone got them there. As far as I'm aware, they work out cheaper than the high street as they don't have the same overheads.

I'd second Stonechat Jewellers, myself and my fiance ordered my ring there two weeks ago and I am eagerly waiting!! We picked a ring that I loved which came with diamond as the main stone and then they rang the designer to ask him to change out the diamond for amethyst and he is! The staff are extremely friendly and knowledgable but it's also a very relaxed place :)

Hey, thought I'd let y'all know about our adventures :)

We did a nice bit of shopping around.

There are a few stores around the Grafton street area which do very nice sapphire rings.
Applebys have a selection but I found them expensive. Wiers had a fairly good selection, service was very helpful and the girl that helped us was lovely.
    In the powerscourt center there is;
Corrs had a few very nice pieces.
Stonecat is grand but a bit modern which isn't what I was after.
Theres also 2 antique stores, can't remember their names, the selection was good.

I was caught between two lovely rings from Wiers and Corrs, it was a hard decision but we went with Wiers. I'm delighted with the ring, totally thrilled, everything I wanted :)

Wedding planning now, soooo exciting :)

    Thanks everybody for your advice.
