    Hi All,
quick question, i ordered an antique (atmos) clock of e-bay that is being shipped by usps. after tracking i see it passed through customs but i haven't received a bill.

i am wondering will the courier turn up and look for 100-200 euro at the door or will i be invoiced for the amount? the problem is that the courier will be going to my mothers house and she may well think she's been scammed if i don't know how much it will cost.

    thanks for any replies

If it was posted with USPS it will be deliver by anpost, delivery guy will be looking for payment on delivery, if you don't pay he will leave a missed delivery paper or similar, you can just go an collect from shorting office and pay.

If you know how much the item is + delivery you can calculate money due, just add about €7 for anpost fee. Customs is calculated on the declared value.

thanks for the reply, just in case anyone else reads this thread, an post turned up this morning with an invoice for 171 euro cash. he was polite and willing to come back as he understood not everyone would have that kind of cash sitting around the house.

Nope - if customs think the declared value is incorrect it will use a local market value.

Too many Chinese sellers provide a false low value and customs know this. Items from USA are less likely to have false values.

Yes I know that, I was referring if item had a correct declared value, so buyer could calculate how much he/she was expected to pay to postman, not everyone knows the postage value is also use to calculate how much to pay.

If incorrect they will ask for proof of payment, etc

You can give the postman a cheque - mine accepts one anyway. Check any charges very carefully as the customs man does not always get it right. If you think you are overcharged you can appeal to the Customs office based in Portlaoise.
