Before I reset and erase the phone I would like to ensure all my data is backed up.

I use google plus so I am confident my pictures and contacts are stored there.

Is there anything else I should do?

    LG Nexus 5

is there anything specific you want to backup?

without root it will be difficult to backup things like Game Saves and app data. SMS Backup and Restore will backup your messages.

All of your photos will be backed up on google + (assuming you have that turned on) but I would still back them up to a laptop or something. Just to have.

Put on a memory card/usb or a connector that can transfer between phone and computer. If you've Bluetooth might work but depends how compatible the computer/laptop is with phone.

Just changed phone yesterday for the second time this month so I have some idea. Firstly, if your staying with the same brand then see if they have a backup facility as part of their account, HTC and Samsung do.

Otherwise, I use Google account to back up contacts, calender emails etc. , Dropbox for the pics ( mine is set to auto upload to Dropbox when I take the pics )

I'm sure you can also use a computer and the phones software to create a back up.

If you are not rooted, I'd advice Helium, as it allows unrooted users to back up apps and data, to local or cloud storage. (Local free, Cloud is Premium feature).

Also, unrooted users require a desktop(PC) app.

Helium is the missing app sync and backup solution for Android.

Helium does NOT require root. All Android users can use Helium to backup and sync Android applications.

Helium lets you backup your apps and data to your SD card or cloud storage.

With Helium, you can sync app data from your other Android devices-- even if they are not on the same network.

Set up backup schedules with Helium, and never lose data again.
