Should Leonardo DiCaprio have an Oscar by now?

There seems to be a common perception that Leo has been unfairly treated but honestly he has never been the best that particular year.

    Many people put forward:

2002-Catch me if you can-Loved his performance but Adrian Brody in 'The Pianist' that year was unbelievable and a deserving winner

2004-The Aviator-IMO gave a better performance than Jamie Foxx did in Ray but Don Cheadle was better than both that year

2006-Another excellent performance by DiCaprio in Blood Diamond but once again deservedly beaten by Forest Whitaker's powerhouse performance in 'The Last King of Scotland.'

2012-IMO the year Leo was unluckiest.Could have gone either way between him and Waltz for 'Django Unchained'

2013-Don't think he can have many complaints, Maconaughey was superb.

Don't get me wrong I think he is a fantastic actor and I am certain he will win one in the future.

P.S sorry for any typos, on phone

    Does it really matter.

I don't think anyone takes the Oscars seriously anymore (if they ever did).

He's a top class actor and I would say being in a quality file and delivering a great performance means more to most actors than an Oscar.

I thought his performance in Revolutionary Road was much overlooked.

Leo doesn't do subtlety very well. Look at Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood. I'm sure Leo could deliver the 'church scene', or something similar. But he's no good for those quieter moments. For example, the simplicity of the sea-side scene with Henry Plainview. Leo can't do that stuff. The Wolf of Wall Street suits him perfectly. That's not a criticism by the way. Many fine actors have/had only one register (hello Jimmy Stewart).

The short answer is none of his performances alone have merited one, but if you have a 20% chance 6 times you probably should have got one.

Anyway, the real question is how does Christopher Nolan keep getting overlooked.

Wasn't he nominated for "What's eating Gilbert Grape"? I've never seen this but apparently he is very good in it .

Best Supporting Actor for What's Eating Gilbert Grape, and Best Actor for The Aviator, Blood Diamond and The Wolf of Wall Street.

He lost to Tommy Lee Jones in the Fugitive.

Don't think he has won a BAFTA neither.

He also has a Best Picture nomination as producer of The Wolf of Wall Street.

When the likes of Interstellar don't get even get nominated for soundtrack (and I'm not even a big Zimmer fan, I think he has the tendency to be samey), you know its time to not take the oscars seriously.

Or Gone Girl for best picture, for that matter.

If Oscars were a suitable judge of ability then yes of course.

But they're not, so who cares.

I would argue yes. Yes he should. For blood diamond pobably.

WoWS was an enjoyable movie but I don't think it stretched him as an actor all that much.

Leo suffers from Too Good Looking syndrome. As the wrinkles set in, expect a clutch of Oscars from the man. Besides, the world and anyone who matters knows he can act. The same applies to Brad Pitt. They don't need the cash. In a quieter moment they'd probably say its better off going to someone like Eddie Redmayne who could use the leg up.

Why is this tread not naming Ralph Fiennes instead? Or Alan Rickman? Johnny Depp? John Turturro? Steve Buscemi?
Why nominate a standard/medium-talent pretty boy?

Fiennes was robbed for Schindlers. He probably will pick it up on a good day still.
Rickman takes the piss on a constant basis.
    Johnny Depp plays cartoons.
Torturro sticks to arthouse and will probably win someday for behind-the-camera work.
Buscemi has moved to TV land.

I'd say whoever plays Leo in a film about Leo's life will get an Oscar, but Leo won't :P

The ghost of Howard Hughes is in talks for that exact same role. Word is the fix is in. HH insisted.

Leo has given a lot of good performances but I don't think any of them have been worthy of an Oscar tbh.
