Hi All, I am going to Lanzarote on my own. I have sighned up for surfing with http://www.surfschoolanzarote.com/230712.asp I was gonna stay in Caleta de Famara but am worried that it would be very quiet.
What I need of you folks is can anyone recommend cheap accommodation in Puerto del Carmen.
Also my return flight is at crazy o'clock in the morning, would you get shuttles or rent a car ?

Famara is a real surfers spot. If you are there for the surfing I am sure there is a great après surf life as well. I don't think staying in Puerto del Carmen would be of much use to you as it is about a 40 minute drive from Famara and depending on what time classes start and end at it might not be a runner.

I am an oulwan so not really terribly au fait with the surfing scene but from what I have seen when I have visited Famara I would think you would be better of staying there.

I hope you enjoy your adventure.

Famara = An Achill beach moved 2000miles south.

Its magic ( and a bit quiet mid winter ) - dont know about other times of year.

I've seen some of the guys & gals from La Santa turn up at Famara for the surf.....so perhaps they will turn up in the evenings ? ( or could it be the night time action on the west coast is at La Santa ? )

If you were just hiring a board instead of signing up to a surf school I would say get the hire car as you would invariably have to drive to get to the waves.

Take a look on http://trivago.ie to see if you can find a cheap hotel near the surf school... Their search function can be a bit iffy as it sometimes uses local spellings for smaller place name... The surf school address might be handy to plug in and see what cones up for you.

If you are travelling alone, saying in a bigger resort area and driving might get you more action than just a bit of water splashing in your face on a board... I would stay, hire a car & drive every day. Not much fun, but the gals and hopefully the surf will b worth the effort

Stay in the surf house, great craic.
There's a few bars and also there's a big party usually on the weekend in someone's house.

Don't swim on that beach, it is lethal and only suitable for surfing.

I would rent a car as you can explore and then drop it off when you reach the airport also its handy to do some shopping in a bigger supermarket

If you're going surfing with Tim et al you probably won't want to be partaking of too much night life. It will be tough going during the day. Famara is a lovely village with a great vibe to it. There's enough restaurant options, although the bar scene is not particularly hectic. There will be plenty of other surfers, so you will find craic if you're looking for it.

Renting a car is cheap and handy, the islanders can drive a bit fast but there are often checkpoints too.
