    Hi guys

Getting the outside of a new house finished soon and its going to be gravel in the front drive and tar put down on this in the future.

Would liek to get paving done at the back in the future, would it be as well to get gravel down on this now also as a prep ? Does paving have to go down on gravel ?

clause 804 is better material. I would have it well compacted at this stage also. Maybe you could hire a vibrating roller if you are completing yourself?? I would reccomend at least 200mm (8 inches in old money) of sub-base before the base layer of tarmac to do a good job. I would put the same for the block paving and then lay your screed on top.

not doing myself. builder is putting down a sub base but i dont know what it is, he knows that we will tar in future so will just double check he is doing it right

will this surface suffice for tar and paving ?

Yeah it will be fine for both. If your not driving on the paving at the back i would reduce the sub-base.
