What would be a realistic cost to change for me?

11-13k?

I would think you should get 5500 trade in for your own and 2011 TDIs are going for between 17-20k in a main dealer.

You need to go to a few dealers to get and idea about prices as prices can vary. Play them off each other for your business.

Widened my search a little bit. Am picking up a 2012 Golf Edition-R 1.6 next week from Grange Motors.
