    Hi all
So yesterday my laptop was slow so I made it do an update on it. to flush it out. It stated that it wouldn't delete pics, files, music etc. So I thought grand and done the update. It appears that it deleted Microsoft office word, excel, database etc. It replaced it with Microsoft office, but it's asking me to buy it. I bought the laptop new with all word 2013, excel etc. back in 2013 so it should last till 2020.

What can I do? Any help at all is approached. :)

    Thanks.

    p.s. Running windows 8

Do you remember if any dscs came with the laptop when you bought it? There might be install discs with the iserial numbers written on the front of them. Failing that would it be feasible to contact the place where you bought it from and ask them for the install discs or for them to reinstall the software they originally gave you?

That would be PC world. I could do that. But I wonder would I get it off the HP website?

EDIT: As far as I remember I didn't receive any disks as PC world set it up for me...

That's unfortunate, you would need the Product Keys in order to activate the software again. The HP website would be more for downloading drivers for the laptop rather than direct Microsoft products.

I came across this on the HP website, but that redirects to Microsoft to purchase MS Office.

It might be a trip to PC world to get either the product keys or for them to install it for you again. Maybe ask for the product keys or installation discs if you do go into them.

Was it a restore/reset you did rather than an update. I suspect you did a factory restore which brings the computer back to exactly as it left the factory with trial versions of MS Office etc. It would have deleted any software that was installed at a later stage such as the software that PC World installed.

    Bingo! That's the one.

Look under the laptop for Microsoft stickers. The code for activating MS Office might be on one of these.

You'll have to check all the boxes/documentation to see if you have any of the info in there. Or stuck on the bottom of the laptop as previously mentioned.

As unfortunately you may be slightly stuck... doing a restore is going to remove all applications from the system and should only be done after a comprehensive backup of all software keys has been done.

Hi all, thanks for all the help. I got it sorted temperately. The college has an office package that I downloaded for free, so that will do until 2017 when I finish college when it expires. Then maybe I will just buy a new office package from pc world then.
