    Hi

My better half is trying to open Art classes for a children.

How can she start I mean as a sole trader or company? It will be sole run. We have premises for hire (She needs insurance for this)

Do I need a solicitor or any one else?

    Ta,

Sole Trader is fine and obviously get insurance. Best see if you need to get background checks done to teach Children.

Yeah I'd consult a solicitor if I was doing this, set out disclaimers/terms and conditions

What if one of the kids drinks a jar of paint?

I've pm'd you an insuarnce broker to get in touch with that specialise in childrens entertainment. They're also the cheapest I can find in Ireland. :)

Have a look at http://www.artzone.ie/. They've been doing art classes for years and the website has loads on info you'll need.

Something to consider that I never thought about .I have taught craft classes for years in various shops, workshops, kids parties etc as a hired agent by somebody else. I recently converted my garage with the idea of running classes. Someone else that works in this area and has brought to my attention the possible problems and dangers of running a class alone with children. Mostly accusations of bullying, doing things to the child, what happens if an accident occurs etc. I know it might seem like overkill but I know how manipulative kids can be - anyone with kids old enough to speak does. And as soon as you need to employ someone it doesn't work. If you have a family friend or relative willing to just be there it would be worth it. For insurance, I went with Mast as they would cover classes and stuff I made to sell.
