Can anyone tell me if time working in the uk give you pension credits for the Irish contributary pension? As my mum worked a few years in her 60s in the uk and is short a couple of years credits for the full state pension here. The other thing is as she was over 60 while working there so she was national insurance exempt and just paid tax.

If you have worked in Ireland and one or more EU states your social insurance contributions from each EU state will be added to your Irish social insurance contributions to help you qualify for a social welfare payment. More information about combining your social insurance contributions to qualify for a state pension is available.

Thanks for the links. I am not sure since she was exempt from national insurance as she was over 60 would she still accrue the credits?

Unfortunately once a person reaches pension age in a country they no longer pay the reckonable contributions nor can they accure reckonable credits. Here's the contact number for the authorities in the UK 0044 191 218 7777.

If she doesn't qualify for the State Pension Contributory she may qualify for a State Non Contributory Pension, or if she has a spouse partner on a State pension she may qualify for an Increase for a Qualified Adult Allowance. Both are means assessed payments, the Non Contributory is based on a household and the Qualified Adult Allowance would be based on her means. You can contact the State Contributory/Non-Contributory Pensions areas in Sligo on 1890 500 000
