Leinster Round Robin

What do people think about this? Good or bad idea?

If I was from a weaker county I know id rather be training all winter for a round robin series where I had a decent chance of winning a few games before facing a big side with some momentum, rather than just been drawing to face Dublin etc and almost certain defeat in the 1st round. In my view the seeding in Munster worked for the weaker teams last year. Waterford and Clare last year - Clare beat Waterford in a replay and with this momentum ran Kerry close, hammered Carlow and were unlucky to lose to Kildare. Waterford had no momentum and lost to Carlow in the first round of the qualifiers. Momentum is vital for weaker counties, having seeding or a round-robin arrangement allows them to get some.

I know that this is an old thread, but just right now it is pertinent to ask what happens in Leinster now with the round robin !

My understanding is that Offaly replace Laois in the RR, although Kerry are supposed to be hurling in Leinster next year.
The GAA will probably reshuffle it all again...

Kerry up, Antrim down. What is the problem?

Should be Kerry, Offaly, Carlow and Westmeath.

I think last few posters are a bit mixed up; this thread was discussing the creation of a preliminary round robin for the Leinster football championship.

As for the hurling; there seems to be a wide misunderstanding that Kerry will enter the Leinster hurling championship, this is not the case.

They will participate in the (badly named) Leinster qualifier group but if they finish in the top two they will advance to a Munster quarter final. They 100% will not take part in the Leinster championship proper.

It's just getting farcical now! So Kerry participate in the Leinster round robin qualifier to get entry to the Munster championship, so one Munster county may have a quarter final fixture but they won't know until about 2 weeks beforehand depending on how Kerry do in a qualifier for entry to the Leinster championship! Also Kerry will have to wait more than 6 months till their next game, you couldn't make it up if you tried...

Round Robin? What's that for? Says we looking at it fade into the distance through our rear view mirror! :D

Seriously though, we are delighted to be out of it as now we can concentrate on our U21 team for next year. We have had decent U21 teams these past two years but failed to pack a punch on match days owing to the hectic schedule of Round Robin.

Last year alone, a lot of Laois lads played 6 championship games in 29 days between U21 and Round Robin. Glad to be out of there now.

Oh really? Well thats stupid. Far better to put them into Leinster proper rather than Munster.

Evidently what you are saying isn't confirmed yet.
    3. The goalposts have shifted since then as Croke Park feel that pitting Kerry with opposition they could have a realistic chance of beating would serve them better, rather than presenting them with the prospect of a heavy beating in Munster.

A straight route to the Munster championship could see Kerry cop a hiding and deflate morale that has been built up on the back of a superb 2015 campaign. Furthermore, a Kerry hurling official we spoke to this afternoon insisted that the prospect of them playing in Munster was never mooted during the Hurling 2020 review process.
