LGFA Registration and Insurance

    Hi all

    I hope you can help.

An lgfa club thats a few years has some questions

The club has 6 or 7 teams from u8 to 16s

First off the registration for players is very expensive at 42 or 47 euros (yes mens registration is half this amount)
Of the 42/47, approx 10 euros pays for player insurance and the rest goes to the Lgfa.

    The problems we have is;

    1) Its difficult to get younger girls to register for a girls club when they can regiter with a gaa club for half the price. Families with 2/3 girls might have to pay 150 euros registration with the lgfa!
Are other clubs finding this, do you know a way around it?

    2) The lgfa expects all committee members to be registered at 37 euros each. Its difficult to get people who will give up free time to run a club and pay for the priveladge.
Do other clubs register all committe members or just a few?

    3) The last issue is the most difficult. Trainers/coaches are mostly men for us. This means a female trainer/assistant has to be present for training and matches. It doubles the number of coaches, according to the lgfa, both have to be registered and insured. Its very hard to get people to do this job as it takes soom much time. Getting them to pay to do the job is a real slap in the face. We have heard other clubs dont "charge" trainers registration. Im not sure if the clubs provide their own insurance or pay the registration from club coffers or just dont register them. How do your clubs work with this?

Our aim as a club is to be insured against accidents but also to try make it as affordable as possible for people to give up their free time.

    Any help or advice appreciated..

Problem is that everybody takes a cut, so the county board takes a cut of the money, the provincial council gets a bit, Central Council gets a bit and the rest is the injury fund. Registration is €15, injury fund is €10 and the rest would be going to your provincial council and county board.

A lot of clubs end up doing fundraising to help cover the costs of the registration for the adult committee members and try to subsidize the cost of the membership for the players, which is quite difficult. They would end up paying the coaches registration from the club funds. I can fully understand the huge cost, having being involved for so long. With multiple members, clubs would subsidize the second or third child from the club funds as well.

Many clubs would just register their chairperson, secretary and treasurer, and anyone going to the county board meetings. It is difficult situation, and added to that other charges the clubs would have for affiliation etc, it is quite tough

If the LGFA wanted to, they could merge with the GAA.
But they don't seem to want to.

Registering players is the main source of income for many LGFA county boards. so you can see the predicament they are in.

The injury fund structure and some people at the head of the LGFA are the root problems - they'd lose some of their power

Sooner the GAA, and LGFA merge the better. It makes no sense having clubs pay for multiple bureaucracies

He did a lot of work behind the scenes, but he wasn't the problem!

    Hi All

Thank you all for taking the time out to reply and for your help and advice.

its somewhat comforting to know were not the only ones but its really sad to see that the system is so badly broken and the players, families and people who volunteer their time are paying for it.

    Thanks so much again,

    Gringro

This is something that's fallen into my lap also. Registration is only through the Servasport site now, with a verified paypal account required. There's a set up fee of €30 and €150 to the All Ireland Levy - prohibitive costs no doubt about it ... our U12 girls played a total of 3 competitive matches last year:confused:

3 - thats nuts?? No friendlies at all either?

You pay the transaction fee on the cost of the registrations, plus then when the county board and provincial council get their cut back, it is less the registration fee, so the LGFA have the system for nothing, the costs are put onto everyone else!

Yeah it was quite a shock to me the inherent costs associated with the registration process.

IIRC the U12 girls were in a 10 team group - and it was an all county (north & southside teams). The games were either scheduled for Saturday or Sunday @ 16.00. The ladies game couldn't have any higher profile than it does at present around the county and our club in particular were seeing the benefit, but I feel that the game as a whole is missing a great opportunity for the want of some professional direction from the top table.

Some of the people at the top table would want to be taken out off it - I know some of them personally, and its all about the power for them tbh. Its sickening to be honest some of the people who have have the power
