Just wondering the history behind all of these massive mileage UK imports? There is so many of them. What was their previous life?

I mean, how does someone put up 130,000 on a everyday golf in the space of a few years?

They are for sale cheap in the UK.

Ex hire drive or company fleet cars ,most likely, so they will probably have been regularly serviced and well maintained.

Yes high milage UK cars in good condition usually REPs cars.... You can get low milage at good prices compared to equivalent here in Irl. You can get 15% off asking price for straight deal in uk..... My last two cars were bought in uk ..... around 15000 miles on each and I saved 6k each time... However rate of exchange isn't very favourable at the moment... I bought from a garage main dealer .

That's normal enough mileage for a Uk fleet car driven up and down the country or a privately owned car used for commuting. They hide the mileage and wear very well if they are driven on good roads and not abused or neglected. Unfortunately these cars are prime candidates for being sold over here where half that mileage tends to disappear.

The main difference between these cars and the average Irish car at the same mileage is that your typical Irish car tends to be fit for the bin due to overall lack of proper care or maintenance.

A lot of motorway miles on UK cars. This means a very easy life in general, as gearboxes get little hacking and the like. Even B roads are decent in most of the UK too. Not like here where surfaces are unpredictable. I'd be more worried about a lower mileage diesel as clocking is a big issue as others have mentioned.

There were issues before with flood damaged cars being disposed of here cheaply

130k miles is around 210,000 km.
In a space of 4 years, it's 55,000 km per year.
It's not really that high. Just over 1000 km per week.
So let's say daily commute to work of 100km each way.
    Nothing extraordinary.

Many people are afraid of high mileage, but the fact is if car is properly maintained, and everything is fixed on time when it breaks, it shouldn't really matter if you are buying 200,000km car or 500,000km car or 800,000km car.

Ah now, you're guaranteed to get serious trouble if you're daft enough to buy something up on 800k!

    I doubt that....
Seen plenty of cars with that mileage and more, and they look and drive perfectly normal.

See at 200,000km car is usually bit worn. Probably clutch and flywheel will need changing soon, or maybe they were already changed. Suspension parts might be worn and needing exchanging. New shocks possibly. And so on.
By the time car reaches 800,000km it already might have a 3rd or 4th set of suspension, 5th or 6th clutch, probably 2nd or 3rd gearbox. Possibly new engine or have original engine rebuilt few times. Maybe new upholstery inside. New steering wheel and gear lever, etc.etc...etc...

In short if you buy 200,000km car you might actually need to do more work to it in next 50,000km than when buying 800,000km car. At those mileages it's pretty much all up to how car was maintained.

That reminds me of the old ... "Best yard brush I ever had, only had 3 new heads and 4 new handles"...
