Am genuinely sad, part of my life since I was a little kid in the 70's, even though he wasn't "friendly" (as a kid would perceive characters) as a kid I always sensed that the character was "decent", he couldn't understand prejudice of any sort and was ethical.

Bizzare that he was discussed at length this morning at work and quoted heavily to give inspiration. Rip

.....Sad to hear of the death of Leonard Nimoy who joins Deforrest Kelley (MCCOY) and James Doohan(SCOTTY) in casting off this mortal coil.

Most of the Original Series actors are ....well......old which kind runs against the ideal scenario of the 22nd century where people live longer healthier and happier than our own times, according to the idealistic writing of 1960's sci-fi writers.

An icon of my televisual youth, Spock/Nimoy will be sorely missed.

    RIP Mr Spock/Nimoy. :(

It also shouldn't be forgotten that he was, and always will be, one of the all-time great Simpsons guest stars.

Mayor Quimby: "May the Force be with you."
Nimoy: (annoyed) "Do you even know who I am?"
Mayor Quimby: "I think I do. Weren't you one of the Little Rascals?"

Nimoy: "And so, from this simple man came the proof that we are not alone in the universe. I'm Leonard Nimoy. Good night."
Squeaky-Voiced Teen: (off-camera) "Uh, Mr Nimoy? We have ten minutes left."
Nimoy: "Oh. Uh, fine. Let me, uh, just get something out of my car."
(runs out of room, starts his car and drives off)

Sad to see him go. I always liked Spock as a kid, he had a noble decency about him - he could point out wrongdoings without sounding preachy. Leonard Nimoy portrayed him really well,

He did lots more of course, but if you are going to be mainly remembered for one role then it doesn't get much more iconic than Mr Spock.

And if you haven't heard his music, give it a listen. You won't go wrong with this CD/Download :)

Sad day indeed, his (Sort of) cameo on Big Bang Throy was great. And loved him in Fringe.

I always thought he had a great voice, perfect for voice-over (Which he did a few notable things with). He played one of the most iconic characters in pop culture and was a very interesting, well-rounded guy in real-life.

I always loved the bit where he finishes up taking the piss out of Shatner's acting during Spock's eulogy in this interview (which is a good watch anyways)

Anyways this was NASA's fitting tribute to him from ISS where they took this pitcure over Boston, where Nimoy was born.

Quite an achievement to have played a character that inspired so many into science that you have people in space saluting you.

I was out on Thusday night with a friend and we spent a good bit of time discussing the TOS episode "Spock's Brain", well maybe taking the pee out of it actually but the underlying current was that it was unfortunate that such a great character had such a terrible episode built around them.

Spock and Data are two of my favourite Star Trek characters. It's not surprising then maybe that I work in software development. Spock cut through all the BS and presented problems as a collection of facts in an unemotional way. This was played to a T by Nimoy. I think the show would never have been as memorable without him. I really think he was the pivotal character in TOS.

He has had probably one of the more unique roles in television in that many, many people working in fields from IT to literal rocket science, physics, astronomy and everything in between would cite Spock as one of their great influences. To me that's worth more than any emmy or golden globe. By portraying Spock with such apolmb he has inspired others to make the world a better place and has indirectly helped shape the world we have today. Althoguh he was great as well in Mission Impossible, I don't think he would have had the same impact had that show been his crowning achievement.

A true cornerstone of proper Star Trek has left us. Friday was a sad day for me but I'm happy to have been his contemporary for a while. His influence will live on. RIP Mr. Nimoy.

Absolutely, in a way he put the science into ST being a science fiction show as opposed to space fantasy.
