Renewing CAA PPL

This is a bit of a complicated one and I'm waiting to hear back from the CAA regarding the same.

Long story short my IAA Medical was suspended but I am hopeful of getting it back shortly.

I have a CAA JAA PPL which expired in October and the SEP rating which expired in November. I was unable to revalidate either due to no medical.

Am i right in saying I can swap the CAA JAA PPL for a CAA EASA PPL even though it is expired and the new licence is for life?

Then to revalidate my SEP rating I must do a proficiency test. Is there a certain length of time after a rating expires that nullifies the rating and I must then start from scratch again?
