The Israelis have been fielding heavy apc's for decades so it could be said that the russians are following their lead. The links for this don't mention any active defense measures like Trophy or the russians own Shtora-1 system. Also I'd be interested in hearing Manic Moran's thoughts on the use of autoloaders vs human loaders given that he is a (former?) tanker.

The US trialled several vehicles in a preliminary competition to look at a Bradley replacement including the israeli Namer but they don't as yet seem to be looking at the family approach that the Russians are using with the Armata or the Israelis are looking at with the Merkava/Namer. One would think that the commonalities would lead to savings in manufacturing cost and maintenance costs.

Well if it would save money, then forget about it. US Army couldn't run a procurement program well if their life depended on it

Stumbled across a video of the self-propelled artillery version on youtube. Looks like the Russians aren't afraid to come up with new concepts, the prototype had two 152mm guns on the one chassis

Apparently the production version will have only one 152mm gun. http://www.military-today.com/artillery/koalitsija_sv.htm

Well when you have to spread the pork to every state in the US in order to ensue political support that tends to happen.

    It does. Unfortunately or otherwise.
