Wondering how easy or difficult it is to change a standard loft hatch (one with the door basically sitting in a recess, and you lift it up and put to one side to access attic) to a hinged door one that you can pull down with a ladder attached?

The How easy bit will be absolutely determined by the distance between the rafters compared to the width of the unit that you want to use, if they are the same, then it's very easy, if the rafters are closer, it's a world of pain, as you'll be in to cutting out a rafter, and putting in cross pieces to get a wide enough gap to then install the stair unit, if the rafters are wider, then some spacers are going to be needed to make up the gap.

The other thing to check is that the ladder unit is the right length to reach to the floor without issues, and that there are no wires or pipes above the point where you want to put the unit in.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁
