System Restore after software upgrade - possible?

I updated some software I run.

    The update is a nightmare.

I didn't set a system restore point before installing it.

Can I still restore to the previous point?

    I'm running Windows 8.1.

    Thanks.

    D.

I don't see why not. If you haven't got your data on a separate partition to the OS then I would copy it just in case the restore changes any.

I have never stored data on an OS partition so I wouldn't know if a system restore affects it or not.
