Hi. I want to change my phone and save my photos and of possible my messages. I have tried kies but it tells me 200+ pics still can't be imported and I can't see how to sync/ back up my messages.

I also use my calender as a diary. Don't suppose I can also back that up? Thanks. I find changing phones a nuisance.

With Android this is very easy.
First you need to ensure your Google account is set up on the phone.
Use the built-in Google settings to turn on the backup and restore option.
Then for SMS use something like SMS Backup+ and that will back up messages to your gmail account and you can restore them to a new phone later.
Photos can be automatically backed up to Google+ or Onedrive or Dropbox etc or if you want to use Airdroid you can move them to a PC wirelessly.
Sync your calendar to your Google account and also your contacts. That way you can see them from any device and they are easily edited on a PC for example.

    Switching phones couldn't be easier.

FYI, OneDrive had an offer for 100gig of free storage for Dropbox users. Might be still available.

it just adds additional steps that are not needed when you can do it all with a Google account
