Hello. I was wondering what is a foreign birth registration? I am 19 years old and have been natrulised I was wondering can I get the foreign birth? Also is the Foreign Birth Registration same as a Birth Certificate? Thank you.

Imagine two Irish people go to England. While there, they have a child. The birth would be registered in the normal way in England, according to local rules. The birth can also be registered with an Irish Embassy / Consulate (check the legalities though), so that the child is registered as being an Irish citizen (via parentage). This means they don't have to jump through hoops in later years.

If you were naturalised, can we take it that until you moved to Ireland, you had no connection through family, etc.?

This question is usually raised by people who are refugees or who have been naturalised but are not in possession of a birth certificate from their country of origin.

The answer is that naturalisation does not entitle a naturalised citizen to a birth certificate, nor can an FBR application be pursued in the absence of a birth certificate.

Can an Irish Birth Cert be issued for children born to an Irish parent, if they were born abroad and lived abroad for the first few years of their lives? If yes, how would one seek to do this?
