Centara tyres

I currently have a set of Centara Vanti AS on my car. I find they are okay for grip in wet and icy conditions (which is my primary concern) but the road/tyre noise is very noticeable, especially at speeds above 45mph. I got the tyres fitted as the tyre guy said “they are great – sure all the taxis are having them fitted”. Which I later learned is tyre fitter code for “if I can sell these to a clueless motorist than I can get a much bigger margin of profit for my self”.

I have tried googling Centara but there are almost no reviews anywhere on them which implies they a very new company with no past history. Which might be good or bad.

Anyone else have any information on them?

If Google hasn't heard of them, replace them. I would never throw anything I've never heard of on my car or Chinese stuff unless I was desperate.

Wait till you drive your car with a half decent set of tyres fitted. :D

General rule: if they're noisy then theyre a hard compound. If they have s hard compound, they will have low grip in wet and icy conditions and therefore dangerous.

There is a 'made in china' stamped on the tyres. Which is another red flag (no pun intended) I suppose.

I had a very good set of premium Michelins on the car just before the Centara's and should have insisted on a premium brand as a replacment.

Note to self - stick to the Michelins, Goodyears, Bridgestones etc in the future.

Sorry OP, I read the title as Centra tyres and I got thinking "is my local Centra now doing tyres?"

Get rid of them. You'll see how bad they are if you do an emergency stop.

Lots of Premium brand tyres are made in China too as it's a low labour cost country. It's not down to where they are made but rather what company makes them and their quality.

Did you look at the rating on the tyre when buying it? I know mine are just above budget tyres but still have a D rating.

Checking out website Tyre review they have no information. To Me sounds like they are below budget tyres not a great seller .

There's no D rating on the EU tyre labels.

I'd also take the ratings on Chinese tyres with a pinch of salt, They are in the vast majority of cases completely fictitious.

Are you saying the eu don't make D rated tyres or there are none in Europe. Budget tyres usually are imports or the ones I get usually are. If you look up the tyre rating you will see D on the label scale. with the European flag. I'm presuming this is certified to meet European standards?

Ratings D and G (WET BRAKING) are not used for passenger cars according to Goodyear site.

So if it has D for wet braking, it's either a van tyre, or another example of gibberish makey-uppy Chinese labelling. Like that power supply I have that indicates both poles are negative. You hope they put more effort into making sure the product is right than they put into the label, but lets face it - they didn't.

Go back to tyre shop and ask how much more for real tyres

Hi I just went to tire shop this afternoon and I purchased centara vanti winter tires they are on sale for only 395 cdn balanced and installed.
For my experience driving here in Saskatoon Canada this tires have good traction in snow, but anyway its just my first day driving with this centara vanti winter tires.

I never had an issue with grip or traction with the centara's - it was not as good as a premium tyre but otherwise okay. It was the noise from the tyres - it was extremely loud at speeds above 45mph and by 60mph you could barely hear the radio.

I now have a nice set pf premium continentals on my car.
