Yet another speed camera query

    Howdy all

I passed a white van with blue and yellow sides tonight and there was a distinct amber flash from the roof. However I had cruise control on so I am worried that I was unwittingly over the limit. I thought those vans operated via infrared.

Has anyone got experience of this flash before?

Cruise control on and unwittingly over the limit? How was it unwittingly?

Sounds like 1 of the 10 garda vans some are marked up others are not.

If it flashed it got ya.

If you had cruise control on what was speed limit and what did you set it at

GoSafe vans have an amber strobe beacon on the rear of their vans, I've passed a few of them and seen them flashing away. I presume they are for when the operator is calibrating the camera with the tripod on the road, anyway Ive never got a speeding ticket anytime Ive ever seen that strobe going.

As for the infra red flash, most people say you cant see it, however I and a few other people I've said it too, have.. Not very bright mind you, but a distinct enough flash and only at night.

I had it set a shade over 80 which I always do because I thought my speedometer was out by 1 or 2km - never had a problem before but when I saw the flash...

    It was one of these:

They flash for every car, not just cars over the limit. Here's a clip from my dashcam, as you can see I was under the speed limit.

Thanks Nino that gives me some hope at least. If I do get done I would be interested to see the speed because it would deffo have been under 85

If it's any consolation to you, I checked how much my speedo was out using my Sat Nav, when I was doing an indicated 108/109 I was doing 100, 128/129 was 120, so on for other speeds.
