    Hello,

I recently heard a bit of a tapping/knocking noise coming from my 06 astra at certain revs. Looked under the bonnet and discovered a burst radiator hose. Took it to a garage for repair of hose. I am still hearing the tapping noise, mainly for the first few mins in the morning drive to work. I had a car that the big end bearings went in and I'm thinking its the same noise. Only difference is I can't hear the noise when engine is ticking over. Its most noticeable when, after coming off the accelerator in second or third gear, not changing gear, then feeding in the accelerator slowly again.

    Does anyone have any thoughts
    Cheers

i know. thats why i said it. about 2yrs ago a lad in work had an 04 astra and he ran it low on oil for a while. he eventually topped up the oil but the damage was done.the car still drove but it sounded like a sewing machine. in fairness it soldiered on for a good while but in the end it expired. i think it dropped a valve into one of the cylinders or the chain snapped. or both. but this guy treats his cars like white goods so he just binned it and moved on to his next one. anyhow could you possibly have overheated the engine when the pipe was burst ?

Ya its possible it overheated, no light came on the dash and I don't drive it far each day so I dont think it had too long to overheat. The tapping sound goes once the engine has warmed up.

it sounds like a hydraulic tappet is sticking to me. why don't you try and give it an engine flush and then a new oil and filter? see if that improves things?
