Scottish Derogation

A man I know has no SFP. He has received Disadvantaged area payment I think and one or other of the AEOS or REPS schemes.

What's the story with this Scottish Derogation, can he get entitlements out of it or how does it work?

It sucks in some media types who are desperately looking for headlines for the shelves later in the week.-something / anything other than the beef factories pulling prices or linking that to big funfair announcements of new markets-!

This is a hot and controversial topic especially for the forgotten farmer group, and if folk get turned down on the YFS/NS, they should automatically get an allocation under this, but again, it will likely have hurdles put up to stop genuine lads getting a fair cut of the cake, after surviving / subsidising their farm up to now on no sfp

I saw the announcement as well .. I'm one of those who ought to be eligible under the scottish derogation.

In fact, quite apart from doing without SFP I deliberately left behind some entitlements with the Vendor when I bought the farm, despite having paid for them, because the advice at the time was that the Scottish derogation would be a better option and taking them up would disqualify me.

But I'm not holding my breath, quite sure they will find some way or another to disqualify me, too old (45), too stupid, unqualified, too ugly or something....

Should we contact the Scottish government, maybe they know what going on? I heard a rumour long time ago that you mightn't need the education certs, and age limits are very unfair imo. These days, from standing around a few marts, if your under 75, your a young farmer:)

Not sure if Ireland will be obliged to implement it in the same way as Scotland.. so might not be that helpful.

Like you, I was under the impression that age was not an issue. Not sure about education... but if a green cert is required I will surely be disqualified. Gave up on that idea when I figured out that the quickest way to re-skill from multi-lingual bond-dealer to dairy farmer was to become a hairdresser first.

To be honest they can keep the SFP as far as I am concerned, it's a corrupt system anyway, I just object to being disqualified from things like the safety scheme on the basis that I don't claim anything else.. all I get is inflated prices on calving gates and the like!

I applied to the Scottish derogation through an ag advisor. Got a letter stating that 'because I had no verifiable evidence of farming in 2013 I would not qualify,

I had farmed in 2013 so I phoned dept and a guy who didn't seem to know much asked me to send proof - I sent a few pages from my flock register with 2013 dates.

I suspect that they are looking for reasons to exclude as they mustn't have looked too hard. It will be interesting to see what happens next.

Anyone else get these kind of letters????

    Thanks dk

Don't think they're looking for reasons to exclude applicants like u. For example, if u had cattle dept would have verified ur beef farming activity from ur herd profile. Equally if u had cereals this would have been verifiable on ur sps form. In both cases u probably would not have got a letter. Sheep are treated differently via record census retained by farmer.

Looks like I missed out on this, this year - thanks Teagasc. Looking at the rules, I probably would have qualified.

Anyone know if a similar scheme would be in place for next year?
