a young trained farmer in Ireland

Dept of Finance - 35 y/o or under with green cert

Dept of Agriculture - 40 y/o or under with green cert

Why is there 2 different rules under the same government?

Tax implications are case up case. No blanket solution

My guess would be that they are simply classifications for different purposes.

It could be because they expect you to be five years older by the time you get finished with the department of finance and make it round to agriculture?

    nothing new there.

Remember a few years ago a guy who lived right on the border going to court with customs who reckoned he was resident in the republic so had to pay VRT on his car. He argued that he didn't have to pay because the department of social welfare reckoned he lived in the North and wasnt entitled to child benefit.

    figure that one out.

This double standard is now part and parcel of public strategy.

Another example are those entering the public services will enter on substantially lower conditions than someone already in the service.
