    Hi!

In the market for a car. Have decided to purchase new but stuck between a Ford Fiesta or VW Polo. Will be purchasing the basic model in whichever one I choose.
Will be mostly driven in city - typically do 10,000km a year. I liked both cars - but am fairly ignorant about the industry as a whole. Any thoughts on which would be the better purchase are very welcome!

What year are you looking at?

I'd go with the Fiesta new. Does the basic polo still come with a 3 cylinder 60BHP engine? Drove one once and thought it was a horrible engine.

Fiesta, base engine is 1.25 4 cylinder , and is a cheerier car in base spec.
Vw will probably have better resale, but there mightn't be much in it,

The Hyundai i20 should be on your list too as its much better equipped and has a better warranty.

Renault Clio is worth looking at too if you can stretch to the new 1.0 litre engine.

Hyundai is offering 4000 scrappage deal.
But for the sake of 1k or so I would rather go with alternative brands as interior still looks very cheap in i20. No stop/start technology.

Fiesta also comes with 5 year warranty; 3 years for Polo though.

Stop-start is only good for lowering your annual tax. It is of no use in real life.

Just checked the Hyundai website there and no mention of scrappage deal?

VW has a new 1.0 petrol engine with lower tax than the previous 1.2 engine. I love VW but my wife drives a 2012 yaris 1.0. Great little car with top resale and €200 annual road tax.

It starts tomorrow - 4k off many models.
