More safety benefits with an outdoor module IMHO

I would go for a firebird model again, we have a firebird super q 50/90 indoor oil boiler, 21 years and still going strong, maybe not as efficient as the newer firebird condensing units that are out, but if ours ever gave up the ghost that it is the one i would go for again. Maybe you could give firebird in ballymakeera cork a ring, they might know of qualified installers for you.

If you knew anything about condensing oil boilers then you'd know not to go with firebird

I would not be so hard on Firebird condensers. A lot of the trouble I see with them is due to bad installs and bad or little maintenance. The ones I have on my patch, that are regularly serviced, give little trouble.

Please follow site and charter rules. "Resistance is futile"

Grant indoor condensing boiler. As long as they are setup correctly initially, there's no problem with them. Make sure you have carbon monoxide detector situated close by though.

And ideally interlocked with the boiler.

Why do some of you put the grant vortex condensing indoor boiler ahead of the firebird indoor condensing boiler. In the short to medium term i will no doubt be in the market for this type of boiler, at this point i would rather go with the firebird, but i would consider the grant as an alternative.

When firebird designed their new range, silverpack etc, they put the burner at the top on the front. They can be problematic as a result. I have on personally, but I much prefer the grant range- they give no problems.

Plus the steel. A 35kw firebird is about 2 stone lighter than a 26kw grant.

Yes. The baffles in the Firebird are more susceptible to warping. They are too thin. Warmflow boilers are even worse again!

Thanks for that advice guys, it is good to know peoples experience with these things, when the time comes to change boilers the grant vortex seems like a good choice. lets hope firebird can rectify these problems or at least make them easier to install correctly, as i admire a piece of machinery that has been going over 20 years with no problems, somehow i doubt many things made today will last as long, the term " planned obsolescence " comes to mind.

Both the firebird and grant boilers both use riello burners. The boilers today are alot more efficient.A boiler is really only as good as the installation and commisioning first day as well as regular services. In my opinion The problem with the firebird enviromax is that the design of the boiler causes excessive temperatures in the boiler chamber that can lead to to the baffles warping and they can be a harder to set up.As far as i can see the grant vortex has no issues.
