Engine fault light

    Hi,

I have Opel Astra hatchback (autamotic 2006 model). I have noticed in the last few months "Check Engine" lids up on long drives, especially after driving at high speeds. That comes with observable jerks. Then next day everything is fine and i never notice that faulty light within city drives.

I got the annual service done last week only and informed about this to the mechanic. He told me my car is one of the few cars he sees where nothing is wrong, just needed to replace oil, etc.

What could be the problem? Could it be over heating on long drives?

Did the mechanic do a diagnostic scan on it. If the check engine light comes on then there should be a trouble code stored.

No, they did not because the engine faulty light has been off for several weeks, like I mentioned, the next day the faulty light disappears.

Could I check for trouble codes myself? My friend told me I have to press break and accelerator at same time before starting engine. But nothing happened...

After a while driving, the fault may be erased automacially if it does not reoccur.

If you get it checked shortly after the light has shown the fault code will be present even if the light has gone off again.

You mention the car jerked? Did you suffer a loss of acceleration coming out of slow corners, and all of sudden the acceleration would pick up? I had the engine light come on with a struggling engine. The car would also vibrate & jerk on the motorway - turned out to be a faulty sensor.

No I dont think so. The fault is probably no longer present in the memory.

The next time the light comes on dont wait so long. Go as soon as possible to get the ecu scanned for any recorded faults.
