Me and my gf can't afford to go abroad for holidays this year with the kids. So we were thinking about doin something here. Now don't get me wrong I know it's not going to be cheap here but with flights accommodation and spending money we were looking at a total bill of between 2000 and 2500 to go abroad for a week. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas closer to home or even in England at a stretch. Thanks

What about the North Antrim coast? I was up there last Summer for a weekend and was really impressed. There are some lovely little towns dotted along the coast from Carrickfergus up to Ballycastle, and you have the Giants Causeway, Carrick-a-rede rope bridge and Belfast as a pit stop (would highly recommend the Titanic museum).

Thanks for that. What's that area like for kids? Got a three year old and an 18 month old.

Renting a house beside a Hotel where you have use of the pool etc is usually a good option if you have small children.

Banna Beach Hotel near Tralee in Kerry do a self catering option and there's a fabulous beach and lots of activities for the children etc in a safe environment.

A few years ago we rented a lovely cottage in ballycogley. fota just up the road. Also recommend fota lodges, you have free access to their indoor pool etc in case weather is bad.

Wales is another idea, haven park in presthaven. Zoos close by etc, indoor facilities.

Have a look at Failte Ireland holiday homes for rent, lovely cottages set in beautiful parts or Ireland.
The kids will love the freedom and you will have a fab time.
I know I'm bias but have a look at Castlegregory in West Kerry.
Loads of activities like watersports, beautiful long beaches and great places to eat.
    You won't regret it.

Ah Castle G... Many's a great holiday we've had there...

We've 2 big dogs and go camping quite a bit. Hear me out... My OH's sister has 2 kids (same age as yours) and her brother has a 7 and 3 year old. We all go together at least twice a year.

    Can be real cheap!

We love Kerry and Clare. The campsite at Nagles in Doolin is great. You could always go 'glamping'. Doolin and the west coast (cliffs of moher, Lahinch and ballyvaughan) are lovely. Fanore beach too. Or take the ferry to the Aran Islands?

Castlegregory in Kerry is beautiful. And a lovely trip over O Connor pass into Dingle is a must!

Lots of self catering options too.
