What time of year should I re-allocate tax bands (Married Couple)

I've had a search and haven't seen this answered.

If I change the tax band allocations for myself and my wife now (February), I presume it will have an immediate effect and continue through to the end of the year.

If she didn't reach the cut off point for the first 6/8 weeks of the season, will the tax bands be changed retrospectively?

Would it be a case that we could ask for a p21 at end of year to claim any "overpaid" tax for those 6/8 weeks?

Alternatively, is there any reason for me to NOT change the bands now (assuming a change would help lower our tax spend)?

Change take place now on a cumulative (normal basis) for immediate effect in terms of recalculating back to the start of the year. You can also request it on a week one basis meaning the cumulative effect is delayed until the end of the tax year when you request a P21.
