The Meaning of a Specific Bet

Hi gambling forum. This is my first time posting on here. I am doing so to get some advice. Last August I placed the following bet.

    1,000 Double

Arsenal to beat Tottenham (Season Match Bet) 2/7

Chelsea to finish in top 3 in premiership 1/4

The bet was written exactly as you see here. Can somebody please tell me exactly what the term "season match bet means". To me it means Arsenal to beat Tottenham over the season and this is what I meant it to mean in my bet. A friend looked at the docket and he said that it could also mean Arsenal to beat Tottenham in the 2 league games that they played ie get more points than Tottenham. I am really worrying about this now and would be grateful if some betting guru could explain the term"season match bet"

Personally I would have presumed it meant who finishes higher, i.e arsenal to finish above Spurs. I imagine also the odds at the time relate to that, as opposed to the same odds for the agregate of the two games between them to result towards Arsenal.

Also I cant imagine betting computers would be able to decide and formulate the two results, taking into account, goal difference, draw, agregate etc and come up with the winner, i.e decide a winner from combining both scores and compiling a result, I mean IF Arsenal had 2-0, yet spurs won 1-0 in their home game, technically it could be deemed a draw, BUT technically it could be deemed arsenal win because have +1 goal difference - that would be very messy for bookies to try formulate so I imagine thats a pretty specialised market bet as opposed to the selection you made.

So me pesonally I would have always thought it was who finishes higher. The betting shop will Im sure be able to check the odds at the time to see which one it meant, unless both are the same price which I would doubt.

On a side note - its a big bet for not even an even money return.

without doubt its to finish higher. theres no way arsenal would be 2/7 over a home and away leg. dont worry about it if arsenal finish higher than spurs in the league you will be paid out.

As said, it's a season bet.
A season bet (in this case) is the result of which team finishes higher when the season has finished.
    Nothing else.

Does anyone know if you can definitely double "top 3 finish " with a season
    match bet ?

Thanks for that information. I hope Boylesports will see it that way when/if I bring in my docket. The guy had to ring up to get

the price and I clearly told him what price I wanted. He took it so it must be ok to do the double. The two parts of the bet are

not clashing really. I wanted to get away from gambling at weekends cause my girlfriend hates me doing it so I decided to do

a few big season long bets. Not crazy about backing odds on shot as a rule but you go by what your head tells you and live

    with the consequences

Why don't you go back in with your docket and make sure.

I would see that as arsenal finishing higher, what would concern me is accepting these two as a double.

You shouldnt be allowed even though its not a positively related double. In this case he rang up and got it cleared so it should be fine.

OP it's 100% Arsenal to finish above Spurs in the league. Relax, and good luck with it. About a 1/5 shot overall now

No reason why you wouldn't be able to do the double.
They are not in any way related as they are all different teams and neither has a bearing on the other.

its a much better method for me. ive been doing the same for the last couple seasons. big antepost bets and no arsing around feeding the bookies every week. if all my ante post bets lose this season ill still have saved much more than if id been gambling every week. and ive gotten a good run for my money and enjoyment watching my teams play whenever they are on. and obviously more free time to enjoy the weekends and have fun.

i remember trying a double at start of season it was a top 2 finish and a season match bet. wouldnt allow me do it. but that was with pp so im sure you will be paid if its at boyles and the cashier rang up. same goes for team to be relegated and top ? finish etc but if the guy rang up i cant see the problem.

The markets are related though. Say he had Arsenal to finish top 3 and Arsenal to finish above Spurs, that bet would be massively related. The bookie cant go to each selection and change it so that Chelsea and Arsenal are compatible but Chelsea and a man city match bet arent (that one would be slightly related). So they just refuse all multiples between the two markets. In this case it was rang over so its fine

Not being funny, but who places a 4 figure bet without being sure of the bet they're placing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,632 ✭✭✭✭okidoki987

start of season it was a top 2 finish and a season match bet

I can't how they are related ff the selections are totally different?
Obviously if they are the same team(s), then they are related.
Like backing D Costa Top goalscorer and Chelsea to win PL, that's very related but
Backing Aguero Goalscorer and Chelsea to win the PL isn't as they are different.

In my own mind I was sure what I meant it to mean. My friend who is an avid punter just put me in some doubt with his interpretation of the bet. I came on here to get clarification from the gambling gurus which I am very grateful for.

check it out now. still cant do an aguero top scorer and a team to win the league. singles only. top 4 finish and team to be relegated cant be combined either. it was like that at the start of the season for me too. i did notice at the start of season they had specific bets like aguero top scorer and chelsea to win the league etc. but once season kicked off those went away.

I asked the cashier to make sure the combination was ok to put in a double. From my experience Paddy Power are a lot stricter in double or accums that a lot of other firms. One time I wanted to double an American Football game and Obama to become the next president (first election campaign) and they wouldn't let me do it. I was thinking how do the two things possibly correlate but that was their stance. I actually find the local bookies are a better for being more flexible with these types of accums. You can talk the them, put your point of view across and they will use common sense. Whereas with the big firms, it is all regimented. Trouble is that my bets are quite large so I would tend to go more to Ladbrokes, paddy power, boyles etc

you had the guy ring in theres no issue with your bet at all. i was just pointing out to the other guy that not all places allow these type of doubles. paddy power being one.

In the OP case they aren't really related but lets put it another way.

What if he backed Everton to beat Man City season match bet in a double
    with Chelsea top 3.

It could be argued if Everton finish above Man City that Man City will have to under perform meaning they wont finish in the top 3 making Chelsea's top 3 price would be lower than 1/3.

If you phone them up they can put it through for you, done aguero top scorer / betting without city / Chelsea double, wouldn't let me do it online.
