Blogging tips?

I've been thinking of doing reviews/blog/vlog for a few months now but I don't know what route to go down- youtube/vlog or written blog.

And I don't know exactly what to base it on, or just anything and everything (from food to homeware to clothing!) I'm not that much into beauty products myself, or interested in that area.

Do you have any ideas or tips to give?
    or where to start?
    what to do/not to do?
    recommendations/sites that could help?

    Thanks.

It depends really on what your goals are to a certain extent.

If you want a place on the internet where you can just talk / write about whatever you like then there are a number of free options such as blogger, wix, ghost and a bunch of others. Any of these would do just fine for a personal blog about anything. (and even if it were to be a business these solutions could possibly hold up) They are simple enough to manage alone and with little technical knowledge.

If you are interested in blogging with a view to earning an income from it then the game changes slightly.

If this is the case then you would be better off catering to a niche interest, say food for example, and posting content that would be of interest to other like minded individuals in order to stimulate the interest in your blog and draw traffic to the site.

Larger, or more in depth projets would be better suited to a full CMS such as wordpress as it has a number of features and plugins (not to mention visual themes) which would stand you in good stead from a business perspective. It's not the only solution out there but it is a bit of an industry standard.

The main drawback is that it can be over complicated for some, and to get the most out of it requires a reasonable level of technical knowledge.

You could always just go for it though on one of the free options and see how you get on. If, after a while you are getting some decent traffic and think you ight be able to make money from the site then it would be more than likely possible to migrate the site over to a more rhobust system when the time comes.

Blogging or written blog is the best option if you can write easily and you can also promote your vlog here on the same place if you will decide to work on both in future.
