OK...the recommended pressure for a car's tyres, is this to be measured with the wheel's fitted and the car resting on the ground, or with the wheel unfitted or fitted with the car lifted??

Surely a different reading would be had for either situation no?

It does not matter if you measure the pressure on the ground or of the ground, you will measure the same pressure, or at least that little difference that your device wont give a difference.

this question pups up also on science forum sometimes, and answer is always that it stays the same. Because I wanted to check it I did a test once .
Measured on a cold morning first 3 times on the ground the front wheel of my car assumed about 450kg/1000lbs on it, then jacked up so zero kg/lbs on it and measured again 3 times.
Reapeated that and ended on the ground , so in total 5 times 3 measurements.
In the process every measurement was a bit lower , and I blame that on the little air that escaped every time I pushed the cheap device on the valve. Last measurement was about 0.05 bar /less then 1 psi lower then first ( those both on the ground).
