if you tick all the boxes and own herd no on leased land, cattle in own herd no etc, you could get 300+ per hectare on national reserve. Glas more complicated as no preferential entry for young farmers. Disadvantage area seperate depends where your located afaik

Hello all, just thought id add that I am currently going for the young farmer top up at the moment, yesterday was talking to advisor and he said that closing date for this is 15th may, can anyone clarify if this is correct, there are different closing dates for the 3 different schemes available.

To my knowledge u have to have applied for it before the 31st of march and have stated how much land u intend to be claiming for and then applied for it before the 15th of May not sure is there different times for different one I'd say there all the same I'm still waiting for the herd number to come back in my name so nothing applied for yet

when you are joining these new schemes what is the difference or benifits by getting a new herd number or a joint herd number

Hey guys I was at a local young farmers conference two weeks ago and have a document explaining all the details relating to both schemes which I prepared for work.
I don't have it with me at the moment but will print it out and post up here tomorrow.

only one herd number can apply. You either apply as a sole individual or in a partnership/company.

I heard that that once you can show you have applied for and are waiting for a herd number then you can apply for the schemes.

Looking into this myself at the moment. What is the story tax wise with getting your name on an existing herd number? Article in the journal about it last week with a lot of if's but nothing definite.

What's the story now with capital gains and farm transfer in regard to the exemption for young trained farmer? What age do you have to be under?

Here's the document I mentioned last night. I've included a Teagasc hand out as well

    Thanks Emmett

Going to apply as new entrant/young farmer for NR and top up with a cereals grower number rather then herd number until I can get herd number sorted.
Advisor says there is no word back on CGT liabilities from joining a herd number yet.
Also looking to get land transferred later this year if I can get a loan and will hopefully get herd number on that instead.

to draw down national reserve on rented land has the land to be leased or can you claim it on land that is on a year to year basis?

Will new entrant get entitilments of €250 paid this year plus the €60 top up on each.
