The Lenovo Thinkpads are hard to beat.

Good price for one with an SSD here: http://www.adverts.ie/laptops/thinkpad-t410-t410-slim-windows-10-ready/7431122

    +1 on above.

The thinkpad keyboard and trackpad are hard to beat. I have one myself and it takes serious abuse and just keeps going. Plus the keyboards have a channel in them that diverts any spillages that might happen away from the internals and out underneath.

Once upon a time maybe, i hate my thinkpad W540's keyboard & pad. I simply disliked that they changed their traditional keyboard but I hate the trackpad, it is the worst thing I ever used. I think this will be my last thinkpad. I certainly wouldn't be buying another based on the decades of past thinkpad experiences.

I think a lot of machines have just been left behind in terms of trackpad. Most expect a good multi touch experience these days, but from my experience the only laptops/OS that seem to do them well are Apple/Mac devices. The reasons for this are pretty simple, simply that Apple has complete control over the quality of the touchpad itself, and the drivers they use. Synaptics can be dyer even still.
