will rear chicks but not as good a mother as wild bird you could see them with 6 chicks one day next day maybe only two

No its all about their rearing from eggs. If they have been hatched in an incubator they wont have the same mothering instincts as a poult hatched and reared by a Bird

hen pheasants that were reared under bantams will have a better chance of rearing a brood in the wild

Mothering ability is in the genetics of the bird also.

they say that only 10 per cent of hens you release will raise succesful chicks. but if you release 100 hens and 10 rare 4-5 chicks that year thats an additional 50-60 birds for the area the followig season and they'll have the 'mother instict' to rear successfulhatches in the future.

in my opinion its well worth doing.
